RCA RC05 Dual Wake Alarm Clock Radio (Black) Review

RCA RC05 Dual Wake Alarm Clock RadioI purchased this to replace a different brand which had an automatic DST feature that messed up twice a year (spring and fall). So I wanted just a simple, good dual alarm radio.I love this one.The radio reception is great, the alarm is good, starts out low and gets louder.I wish I could set it differently for Monday through Friday than for weekends, but that's not a show stopper, and I did want a simple radio/alarm.

Coby CRA59BLK Digital AM/FM Alarm/Clock Radio, Black Review

Coby CRA59BLK Digital AM/FM Alarm/Clock Radio, BlackI was quite disappointed with this clock radio, meant to be a replacement for my 25+year-old GE. It was too light-weight (I'm sure the cats would have had it on the floor given a day or two), and the radio was dreadful. The buttons were cheesy (guess that means they didn't feel good) and -- well, suffice it to say that I initiated a return the very next day and ordered the RCA RP5400 Smart Snooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio instead - it's a keeper. Timex TO45B Radio Controlled Atomic Alarm ClockThis alarm clock performs all of the same functions as clocks costing literally five times as much. There are only two things I'd change:1) I'd like to have at least some glimmer of a light to make it easier to locate in the dark; and, 2) I'd put the snooze button on top of the clock instead of on the back.

iMode Alarm Clock Radio iPod Docking Station (White) Review

iMode Alarm Clock Radio iPod Docking StationMy daughter loves this clock radio. I don't like the fact that it does not charge her Ipod. Charging was a very important part of our decision to buy this product. The information in the ad stated that it was compatible with all IPODS. When we put the Ipod on the clock radio it says the it does not charge this Ipod! That was very frustrating. I called the manufacturer and they told me it doesn't charge the 5th generation Ipod!

iLuv HD Radio & Dual Alarm Clock - Black (I168) Review

iLuv HD Radio & Dual Alarm Clock - BlackI don't typically write reviews, but i am writing this as a response to a particularly malicious review which claims that this radio is unable to receive AM-HD radio stations.

The radio arrived in attractive, high-quality packaging, with both AM and FM antennas (zero reception without them.)I haven't read the instructions (it's a radio...) but they are included as well.

I quickly unwound the power cord, plugged in the FM antenna, and plugged the radio in.Right away i was impressed with the overall build quality.Nice new-electronics smell, the display is really really beautiful, and unique (inverted black/white LCD is quite eye-catching.)The buttons feel sturdy, and give good feedback when pressed (a nice 'click' or notchiness.)

I've found more than a dozen of stations in my area that have HD stations available. There's a few 'hidden' stations in my area, as well.I was treated to a comedy station (106.5-2) as well as a 50's/60's oldies station (105.7-2.)Besides the 'hidden' stations, and the COMPLETE lack of noise or distortion when listening in digital, the sound quality difference is negligible through the small speakers, but is amazing through headphones. The lack of distortion, and perfect tuning is worth something, tho.

The real benefit is in the AM stations. The only station in my area (that i could find) that is broadcasting AM-HD in my area is WTAM 1100 out of cleveland. It takes a few seconds to kick in, but when the radio recognizes the digital station, and switches over, the quality difference is AMAZING.The difference in quality is literally the difference between traditional AM and FM reception.I really can't stress how incredible the difference really is.The radio personalities i've listened to every evening suddenly sound so much more real, and completely different, as they're now crystal clear (as well as completely free of typical AM noise/interference.)

The overall sound quality is ok.It certainly wont replace a stereo or bose-esque bookshelf system, but it's really a clock-radio at it's heart, and in the realm of clock-radios, this is among the best i've ever heard.

If you need a (nice) clock radio, or if you're like me and just wanted an inexpensive HD-radio to play with, you can't go wrong with this product. The price is right, and if the thought of listening to HD-Radio through such small speakers is making you hesitant, the headphone jack is GREAT.

Product Description:
It's the most significant advancement in radiobroadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast programs digitally - a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past. It delivers FM stations, now with CD-quality sound; AM stations, now with FM-quality sound; Crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion; new channels to play more of what you like to hear. There's no subscription fee! Reception is free if you have an HD Radio. ILUV I166 is an excellent clock radio that receives high-definition AM/FM radio. With HD-Radio, broadcasters can use the current radio spectrum to transmit free analog simultaneously with new higher quality digital signals. This eliminates the static, hiss, pops and fades associated with today's radio caused by conditions known as multipath, noise and interference. HD Digital Radio supports CD-quality sound as well as song titles and artist names. And because the digital signal piggybacks onto a conventional broadcast signal, it is free to the listener. Elgin 3514E Bedside Alarm ClockI bought this clock because when the morning sun comes in my window, it makes it impossible to read the time on my LED clock so I needed a clock with ordinary numerals to see the time in the morning. This clock looks great on my bedside table and does the job I needed it to do.I only wish it were a little bigger and heavier and I could see where someone trying to read the time in the dark may have a problem fumbling to press the button on top ofthe clock to turn on the face light.Five stars for my purposes, three stars for most other users needs makes it a four star clock.

Sharp SPC309C LCD Backlight Alarm Clock (Silver) Review

Sharp SPC309C LCD Backlight Alarm ClockThis clock looks good and has a nice feature set, but while it may make a nice travel clock (if your cell phone won't do) it's really not suitable for regular use.

* While the time is displayed in nice large numbers, the contrast is low and the display is hard to read in all but the brightest light. The display is set comparatively deep within the bezel and tends to chop off the right side of the last seconds digit, unless you view it fairly straight on. The date and temp are small, and can only be read from fairly close up.

* As others have noted, you can't read the display if you are looking up at it, as when it's on your bed's headboard. You have to sit up a bit, or twist the clock.

* The clock is smaller than it may look from the picture, and the base is narrow. It's much too easy to knock it over when pushing the backlight/snooze button.

* Unlike many alarm clocks, there's no button to push to turn off the alarm and leave it armed for tomorrow: You have to fiddle with a small slide switch each and every night and each every morning.

Homedics SS-5500 SoundSpa Radiance AM/FM Alarm Clock with Time Projection, Light, Sound and Timer Review

Homedics SS-5500 SoundSpa Radiance AM/FM Alarm Clock with Time Projection, Light, Sound and TimerI've searched american innovative, hammacher schlemmer, brookstone, and other types of vendors with creative products to help me wake up gradually.I truly hate the beeping alarm clock standard and think it's too jarring and unnatural. Most of the ones I've tried have terrible, canned nature sounds and the 'low' volume of the progression is already too loud.

This clock is easily the best i've tested. To the user above who can't figure out how to make the lamp come on dimly at first, read my comment on that review - there's a simple switch on the back. When it's off, the lamp comes on full blast, but when you turn it on, it's a very gradual brightening.

This is one of the clock's best features - other clocks have a built-in bulb, but with this you get to use your own light instead of some gaudy towering clock next to your bed.I've got mine plugged into a lamp 20 feet away from the bed and it works perfectly.Another nice feature is that while in bed, if I forgot something, i can just press a button on the clock and turn the lamp on remotely, with fully dimmer controls. And at night, you can set it to gradually get quieter and dimmer until it shuts off at a preset time.

If you want a peaceful way to wake up, with either progressive nature sounds or slowly-increasing radio, plus a natural brightening of the room over 15 or 30 minutes, this is the right clock.

The only feature I wish they included is an iPod dock. For some reason you can't have progressive volume, light control, AND mp3 control in one clock. The ceiling projection is kind of cool, but I still don't see a reason to buy that feature alone. The one other reviewer who said the blue is too bright - this is true.Despite a dimmer control on the display, even the dim setting is far too bright.

Other than that, this is a great product.Just the remote lamp feature alone is cool enough to buy it and give it a try.

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual Alarms Review

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual AlarmsI spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect alarm clock for my bedroom and, as you can tell, I am still looking. The Sangean RCR-2 certainly has some attractive features like the atomic clock, which took a few hours to set itself, and the nice styling but it fails in so many areas as an alarm clock. First, and most importantly, the display is unreadable. It is very busy with lots of symbols and numbers but using very thin LCD numerals for the time and the off axis viewing angle is very small; you must basically face it head on. Worst of all, however, is the blindingly bright orange backlight with makes is impossible for night adjusted eyes to read the display if you want to check the time in the middle of the night. It is so bright as to cast shadows throughout the room. I keep it across the room but I can't imagine trying to sleep with this minor sun positioned on the nightstand.Sure, you can turn off the backlight but then the clock is invisible at night. Maybe LEDs are not cool but they make a lot more sense for an alarm clock. Also, it takes at least four button presses to turn on the alarm as opposed to one on my old alarm.

Product Description:
This modern clock radio is a step above the clock radios of the past. For starters, the radio updates its time automatically from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. While this may force you to work or school on time, the benefits of a constantly updated timepiece are critical in this fast-paced world. The radio even adjusts itself automatically for daylight saving time. The illuminated LCD screen gives you vital information, including: time, date, day of week, sleep, wake times, naptime, and radio information. With the gentle wake option, you can choose for the radio's volume to start low and slowly build over time. The AM/FM radio has fourteen presets for individual programming. The clock radio also features an automatic preset system which scans and memorizes available radio stations. With the two alarms you can set wake-up times on the same or different days of the week. The sleep timer is a nice feature for those who use the radio as a sleep aid. There is a headphone jack for people who want to listen to the radio without bugging the person besides them. The clock radio's color is silver and its styling is modern and sleek.

Elgin Battery Powered LCD Alarm Clock with Nap Timer 3408E - Silver Review

Elgin Battery Powered LCD Alarm Clock with Nap Timer 3408E - SilverAs a student who takes frequent naps, this clock could have been fantastic for me. I'd never heard of the idea of a nap timer before seeing this clock. Now I have. And my life will never be the same. I probably get a good 2-3 seconds more napping per rest period because of this clock. I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you nap as much as I do, it adds up.

Also, classes are on different times on different days, so the ability to quickly change the time of the alarm is really important. This clock is relatively speedy. Although there is no button to change hours directly, the inclusion of an "increase" and "decrease" button more than makes up for that. I haven't done extensive testing, but my alarm changes feel fast.

The display is tilted up a little too much for my taste. But that's because I keep it on my desk, which is just above my bed. I haven't had any problems with the viewing angle being especially narrow, though, given the way the LCD is pointed.

The volume is LOUD. I took the advice of one of the other reviews and put some scotch tape over the speaker. This helps a lot, and now the volume is perfectly normal.

I like the fact that the features are minimal. Too many other alarm clocks are cluttered with useless stuff like the temperature and time zone. I know where I am, and I know if I'm cold. If I want temperature and time zone, I'll buy myself a map and a thermometer.

Another feature that's important to me is "smackability." When I wake up in the morning, I want to be able to flail my arm out to the side to smack the snooze button without sending the alarm clock careening onto the floor. This clock has a wide base, so it won't be going anywhere. However, the button on top is pretty stiff. It is made to be pressed, rather than smacked. Thus, my morning flailing has to be a little more controlled than I'd like, which means I have to be a little more awake. That's why I gave this clock 4 stars instead of 5.

SharpTech SPC303 LCD Travel Alarm Clock with Folding Metal Case (Champagne) Review

SharpTech SPC303 LCD Travel Alarm Clock with Folding Metal CaseI bought this alarm clock today (April 7, 2007) at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $10.I wish I had seen the reviews first.I bought it because of the product name, small size and variety of options.Unfortunately, I realized it wasn't a great buy when I brought it home...and spent a few hours trying to keep the battery in a certain position so the clock would stay on.The connections appear to be very sensitive and the battery doesn't stay in place.
The clock light is pointless. It's supposed to help you see the time in the dark, but unless you have the clock at a certain angle everything will appear blurry.Actually, the screen is blurry in most positionseven with the light off.
As for the alarm, it's pretty quiet. If you're a sound sleeper or live in a noisy environment, this is not the clock for you. You'll only hear the alarm if you sleep with it under your ear.
A final note on this product: The clock has been on for almost an hour without any problems...but only with the battery cover slightly open.If I close the cover all the way, the clock shuts off.If you want an alarm clock that will last awhile, I suggest buying something else. You get less than you pay for with this model.

Elgin 3400E LCD Alarm Clock Review

Elgin 3400E LCD Alarm ClockI purchased this clock as a replacement for an older Timex travel alarm clock that I lost. While this model functions on a basic level, it is disappointing overall.

As another reviewer mentioned, this clock gains time quickly. After just a couple of days it will be minutes ahead of the actual time. If you only use the clock for weekend trips this probably won't be much of an inconvenience, but for longer trips or regular use at home, this is a bit of a nuisance. I can honestly say that in my entire life I have never had any clock, watch, or other appliance so poor at keeping the correct time.

I have also been disappointed with the quality of the Indiglo backlight on this clock. On my last travel alarm, as well as my Indiglo watch, the Indiglo backlight is bright and makes the characters easy to read in the dark. However, on this clock the Indiglo backlight is feeble by comparison. It's just bright enough to qualify as usable, but if your eyesight isn't great the combination of the weak backlight and the fact that you probably aren't wearing contacts or glasses in the middle of the night may make this clock difficult for you to read.

As far as the user interface is concerned, the time display is very large, but other on-screen items, such as the "alarm on" indicator, are not necessarily obvious by a quick glance at the display. The Indiglo button, as you can see in the picture, is in the middle of the face of the unit. My last travel alarm placed this button on the top of the unit. If you can imagine trying to illuminate your clock in a pitch dark room, you can probably guess which location is more convenient. Fortunately, all the buttons you need to set the clock are easily located on the lower half of the face of the unit. For setting the time/alarm the clock has a pair of up/down buttons that move the time in one (if you press and release) or 15 (if you hold) minute increments. This is particularly useful for making small time adjustments backwards.

Overall I have been very disappointed with this clock. It lacks some of the ease-of-use features I'm used to, and it suffers from poor craftsmanship. It was relatively inexpensive and it hasn't technically broken, but if I could go back in time I would most certainly purchase a different travel alarm.

Sharp SPC019F Red LED Alarm Clock with a Wedge Style Case (Silver/Blue) Review

Sharp SPC019F Red LED Alarm Clock with a Wedge Style CaseThis alarm clock is very attractive on your nightstand. Takes up very little room. It has served us well for over 2 1/2 years, and after sharing it all this time (my husband resets it for me every morning when he gets up) we realized that we should just get a 2nd one! I'm placing my order right now so we'll have his 'n' hers matching alarm clocks on our nightstands. :)

One feature we like is the 2-volume setting. He is a light sleeper and wakes up fine on the quieter setting, whereas I sleep like a log but wake up great on the loud setting.

Edit: I just received the 2nd one and found it to not have the high/low volume setting that I previously wrote about. It also does not have the night light that my old one has.Upon further inspection, I realized that I did not check the model # before writing my review. My old one is model SPC020, which has those 2 features.Whereas this SPC019 does not.I am only noting this for people who might read this review and order based on those features.

SANGEAN Atomic RCR-3 AM/FM Clock Radio Review

SANGEAN Atomic RCR-3 AM/FM Clock RadioSANGEAN Atomic RCR-3 AM/FM Clock RadioSANGEAN Atomic RCR-3 AM/FM Clock Radio

I've owned many Sangean clock radios over the last few years and this one is by far the best. Many of my complaints have been addressed making me a very happy camper ;)

This radio is an update to the Sangean rcr-1.As far as I can tell it only comes in white.Improvements to this one include:

1.A change from blue backlighting to white. You can now read the display from any angle and from across the room.

2. Gone is the unsightly ferrite antenna stuck to the back of the rcr-1, rcr-2 and rcr-22.

3.They added two more customizable alarms for a total of 4.The first two are buzzer only and the remaining two are for radio alarms.

4.Humane Waking System works in both radio mode and buzzer mode.(Radio mode is undocumented)HWS in radio mode was previously ONLY available on the rcr-1 and absent on the rcr-2 and rcr-22.

5.When the alarm sounds the display lighting of the analog clock changes to amber.Nice touch!

6.Power is now supplied with what I call a wall wart, LOL.This can be a double edged sword, it has a much thinner power cord running from the wall to the clock but the transformer is rather large and can get in the way.

7.Setting and operating the alarms has been greatly improved. It is more intuitive and takes less time to setup.

The radio is very sensitive and is able to pull in stations with ease. The sound quality is very good for a clock radio. It sounds very natural and pleasing. The snooze feature lets you snooze for 5 min. at a time with no option to change the interval.I've owned several clock radios from other manufacturers that let you program the snooze duration.I also wish this clock had a photo electric dimming circuit for the backlight. It does have a dimmer button and an adjustment for brightness on the bottom of the clock. When you press the dimmer button the brightness gradually decreases or increases, another nice touch! If you leave the clock in dimmed setting and momentarily push a button the display will go bright for a few seconds and then resume the dimmed setting.

Sangean reduced the size of the digital display from that used on the rcr-1.As a result it can no longer display the time and date simultaneously. In order to see the date you must first push the date button.I'm nitpicking but in my opinion this radio is not quite perfect.

One last comment, Sangean still has not added a battery backup! In the event of a power outage the alarm WILL NOT sound. Why did you do this Sangean?Haven't you guys been listening to all of the reviewers on this site?I know someone who supposedly works for Sangean responded to my comments on the rcr-1. To clarify, the clock will maintain time for anywhere from 1 to 3 hrs if the power fails but the alarm will not sound. To get around this issue I have plugged it into an uninterruptible power source (UPS).I live in FL and can't take chances with the alarm.

I also wish it had Radio Data System (RDS) and a HD tuner. To really put it over the top it would be nice to have stereo speakers and an iPod dock.Put all of these features in a table radio and you'll have the ultimate clock radio.

Philips AJ3600 Time Projection Clock Radio Review

Philips AJ3600 Time Projection Clock RadioI just received this clock yesterday and have already fallen in love!

To avoid hitting the snooze or reset button(s) and never waking up, I keep my alarm clock across the room from my bed. This way I wake up enough to get out of bed and walk across the room before I hit any buttons. As my eyes are getting older it has become increasingly more difficult to focus on the clock when I wake up in the middle of the night.

When I decided that a projection clock would solve my problem of focusing on the clock in the middle of the night, I started to look around for one and I was not pleased with what was out there.I did not need nature sounds, nor did I need a light to turn on as part of the alarm.I do not have an MP3 player to dock into my clock, and I do not need a complete weather report when I open my eyes (LOL, I will find that out soon enough when I shlep out of bed and let the dogs outside!).I do not need to know what time the alarm is set (Ijust like to be reassured that it is on), and I am perfectly capable of pressing a few buttons to set the time all by myslef.

This little guy projects the time and whether or not the alarm is on...the two things that I am most interested in when I open my eyes in the middle of the night. The projection can be moved 180 degrees and the further away you project the time, the larger it is.It has an adjustable backlight on the face so it is not too bright. It has an AM/FM radio with ten station presets, and when the alarm is set to chime instead of the radio, it starts gentle so as not to jar you awake. It does have two alarms, but instead of having a choice of alarm types (chime or radio) Alarm 1 uses the radio and Alarm 2 uses the chime. The chime is a little bit quieter than I am used to, but it woke me up just fine this morning.

So far (after one night) I love this clock, it's a great price, and I would defiantly recommend it!

Coby CRA108 Digital AM/FM Jumbo Alarm/Clock Radio, Black Review

Coby CRA108 Digital AM/FM Jumbo Alarm/Clock Radio, BlackI have had this clock for about a month now and I love it. The numbers are large and bright, perfect for checking the time across the room at 3 am. The battery back-up works great on my clock, I have unplugged and moved it serval times without a single reset. The controls are pretty easy to navigate; the radio has great reception with the external antenna, the tuning is not real precise but at this price point what can you expect. I would recommend this clock.

HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio & Sound Machine with Time Projection Review

HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio & Sound Machine with Time ProjectionThe HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio and Sound Machine is a handy little device to have around. It features a pretty good radio and six natural sound settings. The nature settings are Ocean, Summer Night, Rain, Rainforest, Thunder, and Waterfall.Of these settings, Ocean and Rainforest are my personal favorites.Rain and Waterfall are pretty good as well.Since I live in Louisiana, I only have to open my window at night to hear the real Summer Night setting.Thunder falls short due to the fact that it really doesn't sound much like thunder. It's more like a constant roar.

The clock is very easy to set up and use.Like another reviewer, I found no need to use the instructions to set up the time, alarm, projection focus and placement or any of the sound settings.I did double check myself by reading the instructions after I set up the clock, but I had everything covered.

The time projector is great for folks like myself who don't even want to turn over in the morning. When the alarm goes off, all you need to do in order to see the time is swing your left or right arm (depending on the location of your clock in relation to the bed) to the snooze button, press it and look up.The projector will display the time for five seconds on the ceiling. That's long enough for you to decide whether or not to get up.You also have the option of keeping the projector on at all times. It gives off a nice warm blue glow in a darkened room.

A sleep timer is also provided on the clock. If you need some soothing sounds to block out reality in order to get to sleep, this feature is really nice.

The only shortcomings I find with this clock radio are that the radio reception is iffy at times (but then again, most clock radios are) and the alarm isn't very loud even though I have the volume cranked up.I need a very loud alarm to wake me in the morning. The buzzer on this clock just doesn't wake me very well. You can also choose the radio or nature sounds to wake up to, but I need an annoying and loud sound to get me going.

Overall, this is an excellent purchase for folks who need white noise in the background in order to get to sleep, do a little work, or just to relax. It's also pretty handy in getting and keeping the kids asleep at night. If you need a loud buzzer to wake to in the morning like I do, you might want a different clock. However, I think the positives outweigh the negatives with this clock radio.I like it and recommend it.

Tivoli Audio SongBook AM / FM Alarm Clock Travel Radio, Blue Review

Tivoli Audio SongBook AM / FM Alarm Clock Travel Radio, BlueThe new Tivoli Songbook is one sweet, versatile radio.I was reluctant to order it because it was brand new model and I couldn't find any reviews, but I'm glad I overcame my reluctance and purchased this radio.I consider it expensive for an AM/FM radio so I expect serious performance for the money--I was not disappointed. It's Tivoli, so I expected sound quality and Tivoli delivers. The sound isn't quite as full as the Model One, but it's more than adequate. For talk radio, it's simply the best sound I've heard from any radio.

One reason I hesitated purchasing was because I planned to use this as a table radio more than a travel radio--the lack of external antenna jacks was a concern because I have trouble with AM reception in my area. The real surprise was the reception--this small radio locked on and pulled in signals that I have trouble pulling in with some of my better radios like the GE Superadio or Grundig Satellit 800--all while delivering a clear, clean signal.Admittedly, I'm not a DXer, and I'm not suggesting this is the radio for that purpose, but it's performance, particularily on AM, is impressive for such a small package.

Performance was great using the aux input on a Sirius tuner as well as MP3 and CD.

Overall, it has the look and feel--as well as performance--of a quality product.

One thing that you should be aware of--this model uses an outboard transformer--a relatively large wall wart. That negates some of the travel versatility, IMO, but isn't a problem for home use. One of the smart design features is the wall hang slot on the back--I promptly mounted the thing over my nightstand and cleared off the space formerly eaten up by my cheap, tinny sounding clock radio.

It's a rare day that a product meets my expectations, much less exceeds them, but this is a great radio!

JENSEN JCR-266 Wall-Mountable AM/FM Dual Alarm Clock Radio Review

JENSEN JCR-266 Wall-Mountable AM/FM Dual Alarm Clock RadioThis works just like I wanted - it is too hard to find a hanging alarm clock and this does that great, with good reception, and nice big buttons. However, it really is just too bright. We put a cloth over it and it still shines though.Conveniently the way it works it goes off at the same time every weekday (which is a smart design).Because now we just have it covered so it doesn't shine blue, but the alarm still works and we can still hit the buttons.Stupid, but functional.

Timex TM80 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for FlashDrive & SD Card or any iPod, MP3, CD or Cassette Audio Player Using the Line-In Audio Jack with Full-function Remote Control Review

Timex TM80 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for FlashDrive & SD Card or any iPod, MP3, CD or Cassette Audio Player Using the Line-In Audio Jack with Full-function Remote ControlAfter using this for a month, I'm still very pleased with it. The pros far outweigh the cons here.

First and best, this thing sounds GOOD. There are 5 tone presets to choose from. The ported speaker is able to produce amazing sound quality. 5 stars for this alone.

Clock displays time, and when no music is playing, the date. Automatic DST switch. Backlight has 4 levels one of which is off. Backlight color and display text is low contrast, hard for me to see.

Battery backup keeps all your settings.

It remembers quite a bit: If you hit the power button, whatever you were listening to is restored, be it MP3 or radio. If you hit the sleep button, it applies the volume setting in use the last time it turned itself off. If you hit the play button, it plays, from the beginning, whatever MP3 was playing when last turned off.

Sleep times of 120, 90, 60, 30 and 15 mins. After setting the sleep mode, if you click the sleep button again, it displays the time remaining before cutoff. When its time, the sound is gently faded out.

Random and repeat settings for MP3 play. Folder button so you can browse memory contents. ID tag info scrolls while track is played. Select SD slot or USB port for source. Line in for other stereo input. Recessed well for USB drives, with a cover. SD card sticks up a few millimeters from it's slot.

Full featured remote. Yes, it is handy if the clock is just out of reach on the nightstand.

Wake to: radio, mp3, buzzer. There is no way to select "wake to random mp3", but I get around that by putting a 3 second silent mp3 in the memory, select that as the wakeup track, and set for random play.

12 station memories for the radio, arranged in 3 banks, 2 for FM stations and 1 for AM.

The cons:

FM reception is so so. The stations I can get all sound good, but can't pull in distant ones.

The buttons on the front [sleep, power, alarms, wake to, radio preset bank selecter] are impossible to distinguish by touch. Adding a dot of hot glue to a few of them helped quite a bit.

The volume control feels like nothing is there. It works fine, just feels weird.

Can't read the time unless I put on my glasses.

___________

If I didn't already own one, I'd buy it again!

Timex CD Player Dual Alarm Clock Radio and Nature Sounds Sleep Machine Review

Timex CD Player Dual Alarm Clock Radio and Nature Sounds Sleep MachineNot happy with quality or features of this unit. Had a previous Timex Nature Sounds unit with better quality on all fronts. Here are the differences that led to my disappointment:

- Display way too bright with no dimmer - I can read by the light it puts out
- Audible buzz or hum and bright red light when an alarm is in a "snoozed" mode
- Crude tuner and volume dials reminiscent of 70's technology with crackley sound when adjusting
- Single dial volume control for radio and CD player listening and alarm
- Dual alarms but one is buzzer only and the other is either sounds, radio, or CD
- No daylight savings time adjustment
- Same nature sounds tracks; would have preferred longer improved tracks or at least different tracks
- Broad and flat - much larger footprint than previous upright model.

You don't get the details on the box so there's no way to tell until you buy it, but I generally expect electronics products to improve with subsequent versions, not go backwards.

RCA RP5415 Clock Radio with Digital/Analog Display and Line-in for MP3 Players Review

RCA RP5415 Clock Radio with Digital/Analog Display and Line-in for MP3 PlayersI had the same issue as one of the other reviewers where my volume knob did not work... so I returned to Amazon and ordered from another vendor believing Amazon received a bad lot.I was correct, second clock worked perfectly.

This is a "Great" little clock radio... easy to use and to set alarms.Separate dial knobs in the rear make setting the time and two alarms a breeze. My wife loves the ease of use as well. She never used the old clock ever though it was dual alarm (she did not want to learn the crazy process of setting the old clock) but now she is always using this one.Thing is so simple you barely need a manual but don't worry its there and fairly easy to follow.Lots of options on this clock, alarm from radio to buzzer that slow escalates in volume, radio has digital tuning.Line option for MP3 player and variable brightness for clock.Clock can be analog or digital. My wife likes this as well, she thinks its cute.Snooze and sleep timer are programmable and the alarm even works if power is out ... though have not tested this feature yet.

In short, the clock with its small footprint was exactly what we wanted... only reason why I did not give it highest rating was due to first unit with faulty volume knob.

The clock can be adjusted to two different levels of brightness to accommodate for different lighting situations. The LCD display also has a digital frequency readout, so you can precisely tune to your favorite radio station. Connect your MP3 player to the audio input jack and enjoy your music any time of the day without having to wear headphones. The dual alarm can be programmed so that you can choose to wake-up to the buzzer or to your favorite radio station. It features a programmable snooze that you can set to ring between 1 to 30 minutes, or by the default setting of every 9 minutes. LEGO Alarm Clock Radio - Blue Review

LEGO Alarm Clock Radio - BlueWe bought this as our four-year old's first clock - thought it would be perfect since he and his brother love all things Lego. But then we plugged it in.
The back-light on the numbers was so bright he couldn't sleep, even on the low-light setting. It lit up his whole room. And after just one day, the switch to turn the back-light on or off broke. You can't see the time when the radio is on - it only displays the radio station until you turn the radio off.It claims to be a digital turner, however we had to tune everything a few tenths away from the actual station number in order to get a decent signal.(For instance, to get the station on 101.1, you had to tune to 101.5.)
Needless to say, we returned it and do not recommend anyone buy it!

RCA RPC100 Big Button Clock Radio Review

RCA RPC100 Big Button Clock RadioI don't get the bad reviews, at all. The clock has a large, easy to read face with a subtle light, which means no struggle to read the time when you're waking up, and no intrusion when you're trying to fall sleep. It includes an adjustable backlight, an AUX jack for your MP3 players, and 2 awesome settings: NAP, which lets you set a quick nap time - up to about 90 minutes I believe - without having to change the actual alarm time, plus a SLEEP setting to listen to your radio and have it turn off automatically when you pass out.

Radio reception for me is great, and the clock includes a mini display to the right that shows the preset alarm time when the alarm is turned on. I love this, since I know, as long as I see a time there, I know it is on. Otherwise, it says OFF. Way handy compared to other clocks which have you hit Snooze or some other button to confirm the alarm time.

Great clock overall! A+

Electric Alarm Clock with Selectable Display Color Review

Electric Alarm Clock with Selectable Display ColorThis is a plug in clock with a battery backup (which is not entirely clear from the description). It is very small (definitely fits in the palm of your hand) but has a very clear LCD. I like that you can customize the color for the display but I found the basic blue shown in the picture works the best. It is perfect as a second clock for the other side of the bed--presuming there are two people.

Sony ICF-CD7000BLK AM/FM Stereo CD Clock Radio Review

Sony ICF-CD7000BLK AM/FM Stereo CD Clock RadioMy now-ancient Philips CD clock radio let me down, so I decided it was time to upgrade with more-modern technology. I still wanted to wake to CD sound rather than a radio station or normal alarm sounds, and after a short search, I found this Sony. It has some features that I really appreciate, which make this clock intuitive and useful. Specifically ...

1) There is a perpetual clock built in, so that after a power failure the clock has the correct time. My old clock had a 9V battery to keep the clock circuit energized, but it always ran fast (really fast) and needed to be reset after the power returned. This one works really well.

2) The CD track selection works every time. My older clock seemed to have a "mind of its own" when I set the wake-up track. I resigned to just letting it go on track 1, which would reliably repeat; just pick a CD with an acceptable first track. This Sony clock wakes me on whatever track I set it to every time.

3) The second alarm is a nice feature. I can easily set it to one of two different wake-up times with the press of a button (really it is two buttons). The out-going Philips clock had a more-arcane method of setting a second wake-up time. I don't think that I ever mastered it.

4) The sound quality is more than adequate. What I would expect out of the tiny 2-in speakers seems to be surpassed. Perhaps it is my imagination.

5) The generously sized snooze bar is easy to find in the morning. Although my Philips clock had a proximity sensor to detect my approaching hand, it seemed to have a very narrow field of regard, and I often had to wave my hand numerous times to get the alarm to stop. This Sony clock has the snooze bar located just above the table surface, so a groggy sliding hand can find it easily.

6) The addition of two alarm times on the main display help in seeing that the alarm is set and to what time. No button pushes are required to read the alarm time.

7) Oh yeah ... it is a pretty cool-looking clock with an easily loaded CD.Now for the not-so-good part...

This clock uses blue LCD backlighting, which is very bright in a dark room, even at its lowest setting. It is so bright that I had to cover over the display to prevent it from lighting up my room. I found that cutting out a 2.5 x 5 piece of card stock makes a suitable display cover that prevents the night-time light pollution, but you also lose the time on the display. It works out OK in my bedroom, because we have a second perpetual-time clock with a less-obtrusive red LED display.

Overall, I would still give this clock a high mark, and I am happy using it. I would expect that someone with more light seeping in at night might not have the same objection to the display brightness that I have. Selectable display colors, where red is a choice, might be a solution for me.
