Howard Miller Radio Travel Alarm Clock-645-587 Review

Howard Miller Radio Travel Alarm Clock-645-587I bought this to keep in my bathroom.I needed a battery operated clock and a radio is a plus when getting ready for work in the morning. My electrical outlets are full of toothbrush and hairdryer and flatiron.

PRO:

- It keeps time.
- The radio gets reception and the single speaker is plenty loud.
- The radio runs off of AAA batteries.
- It was cheap.

CON:

- The radio and clock are two independent devices. The radio is in one half of the clamshell and takes AAA batteries. The digital clock is in the other half and takes watch batteries. This means there is no way to set an alarm to radio - just a buzzer.
- There are two buttons to control the radio (search and reset), and no dial or display to figure out what station you are on, or a button to backtrack.I was grateful to figure out that the radio would stay set on a particular station when it is turned off, at least.
- The LCD is not particularly clear and can't be read from wide angles.I have to put it on a shelf at eye level to be able to glance at the time.
- The clock displays the time as 12-22, not 12:22.I keep mistaking the time for the date.
- Since it has calculator functions I thought setting the time would be as easy as keying in the numbers.Nope! It uses the same forward/backward toggles as any other clock.I hope I won't be setting the time often, but it's curious.

So, it's not exactly what I was expecting, and it is thoroughly cheap inside and out, but it gets the station I want to listen to and it keeps time, which is all I needed it to do.I don't think I would recommend it to use as a travel clock.Kids might really like it, though, since it is kind of a Swiss army knife of an electronic device.
