XtremeMac Luna Voyager for iPhone/iPod - Black Review

XtremeMac Luna Voyager for iPhone/iPod - BlackI bought this unit for my son for Christmas for use with his Ipod Nano 5G.According to the Apple website, these two products are compatible. However, when my 10-year old plugged it in with much excitement on Christmas morning, the unit did not work. After multiple attempts to call XtremeMac (aka Memorex), their phone lines were too busy to put my call in the queue, and I had to keep calling back. This was my first clue that this was not going to have a happy ending.... I finally contacted a real person, who promptly hung up on me.I called back again only to be disconnected, again. On the third attempt, I talked to a real person who told me that my problem was that the unit was not compatible with the Nano 5G! The hot Nano currently being sold by Apple. What! Since there is actually nothing wrong with the unit, I am not able to return it.The extremely polite Indian man informed me that this was my problem, not his.He does have a very good point. However, I did wish him good luck in getting a new job when his current employer went out of business due to poor customer service. The bottom line is do not buy any product made by XtremeMac.

RCA RC65i - Clock radio with iPhone / iPod cradle Review

RCA RC65i - Clock radio with iPhone / iPod cradleI am more than happy with my purchase of this iPod alarm clock radio. It is just the right size and fits perfectly on my night stand with a ton of extra space.
- It is actually smaller in footprint than my previous iHome IH9 iPod Alarm Clock. And I actually like this unit better than that one.
- The appearance is very professional with a silver metal and plastic finish on the front with black on the rear. Sound quality is above average for this class of product, although I am not quite sure if it beats the iHome, but it is definitely very close in quality.
- I also like how they use touch controls on the front of the unit for: iPod, Radio, AUX, and Off. The AUX input is obviously a huge plus as you can play any media player that has a typical head phone jack on it.
- The controls are very simple, to set an alarm only requires one button push (or two or three of same button if you want to be waken up by the iPod or AUX).
- The only thing that is somewhat annoying is the fact that the deeper controls are recessed behind the front and kind of hard to figure out if your not looking directly over them.

Other than that I am very happy with my new iPod alarm clock. I got it at a great price and I would definitely recommend it at this price as well as the iHome is nearly $30 more expensive than this one.

Dual Dock Alarm Clock Review

Dual Dock Alarm ClockThis is my second iHome, the first was a single dock that worked for about 6 months and then the volume and tuner knobs stopped working. Luckily we saved the remote or this would be in the trash. My new, 2 month old, iHome (dual dock) is still working, but two of the lit buttons do not light anymore (see the importance of this in next paragraph). Both units have decent sound quality and options. There are multiple alarms which are helpful.

As far as the design of the dual dock iHome goes, I wish iHome would figure out a few things. For one, the buttons are all flush with the body, so it is impossible to set, reset etc, the alarm without turning the lights on or upping the light control on the iHome (since the lit buttons aren't lighting anymore, bedroom lights must come on). Oh yeah that - when you press the snooze bar, the iHome lights toggle through the different brightness settings. This seems like a good idea, and it is totally necessary since even at the lowest setting it lights up my whole room. The bad part of this design is that to sleep, the iHome lights have to be off (unless you like a lit room) and because of that you can't read the time.

iHome must use the cheapest switches that they can find because both iHomes that I have had switch problems within a few months. they have the best sound for the price, as well as options. I wouldn't buy one without a waranty (include that in the purchase price for comparison).
