Coby CR-A119 Digital AM/FM Alarm Clock Radio with Top Panel Touch-Sensitive Snooze Review

Coby CR-A119 Digital AM/FM Alarm Clock Radio with Top Panel Touch-Sensitive SnoozeThis alarm clock takes very little room on the night stand and I love the touch sensitive snooze. I barely have to be alive to find it.
However, my husband has the same one and his "Set alarm" button sticks and his hard to press. Also the numbers are very bright and light up the room even on the lowest dimmed setting.I have to turn the clock away fom me in order to fall asleep.

CCRadio AM/FM/Shortwave Portable Radio Review

CCRadio AM/FM/Shortwave Portable RadioThis radio is superb! The quality of the instrument is obvious once the box is opened.Reception is exceptional, but the real story here is the company, C. Crane. These people back up their product quality to unheard of levels.
If C.Crane sold wives, I would feel confident in buying one from them.
I have purchased two of these radios and recommend them without equivocation.

Product Description:
For radio enthusiast, the CCRadio AM/FM/Shortwave Portable Radio offers the best sensitivity, selectivity and audio performance of any radio at this price and size. It has a built in Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antenna the brings out the best AM reception and sound available. The whip antenna also delivers quality FM and SW1, SW2 and SW3 performance. This radio not only receives weaker signals, with superior audio, than perhaps any portable radio ever made, but you are given much more control over how the radio works, sounds and picks up a signal. Moving from band to band and searching for stations has been made easy with simple buttons, dials, and a large lighted LCD screen display. A single five inch speaker offers clear tones and bass. There is an RCA line out for connecting the radio to a stereo system and an additional IF out to send a digital signal to a computer for decoding. Choose to wake to an alarm or the radio, or hit the snooze button for a few more minutes of sleep. A durable build and sturdy handle ensure that this radio will last for years to come. Enjoy great sound while on the road, camping, boating....or anywhere you go.If not using the AC Power adapter, this product requires the use of four D batteries or four AA batteries, each sold separately, which will power the radio for up to 70 continuous hours. Optionally you can purchase NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride) batteries and a built in charging circuit will re-charge them when the radio is plugged in.

Memorex AM/FM Clock Radio with CD Player (MC2842) Review

Memorex AM/FM Clock Radio with CD PlayerThis alarm clock is a joke. It has radio/CD, but the radio barely works,NOT a digital tuner by the way, (I live in the suburbs too)and the CD player is almost useless. It has one of those annoying string attenaes that you need to pin to the wall to get any reception whatsoever, and the CD player takes at least 30 secs to 1 min to recognize a CD. After putting in the CD and hitting play, if you want a track 4 or 5 tracks in you cant hit "skip track" to fast, or it will freeze and not play at all. It has all the basic alarm features, digital clock, snooze, 2 alarms, and you can set the alarm to CD or Radio. Lastly, the buzzer noise it has to wake you up is horrible. I don't think could be a worse sound. Every time i wake up I want to bash it in with a sledgehammer. Save your money folks.

Emerson AM/FM Clock Radio with CD Player and Remote Control - CKD2330 Review

Emerson AM/FM Clock Radio with CD Player and Remote Control - CKD2330This is such a bad product.I seriously want my money back, but it's not even worth the hassle.Luckily, I decided to use it as my CD player in my bedroom, and not as an alarm clock.I keep this thing all the way across the bedroom from my bed, and I STILL have to drape heavy clothing over it every night in order to be able to sleep, and I am NOT a sensitive sleeper. The display is so freakishly bright, it actually illuminates my entire (rather large) bedroom with it's horrible blue glow. There's some garbage about an "automatic dimmer" in the description of this product, but that is pure bull. It's supposed to dim when the lights go out, but if anything, it actually gets brighter.I cannot imagine how anyone can sleep with this next to their beds.Furthermore, what's the point of the horrifically bright time display if you can't ever read the time unless you're facing it directly face-on, and about an inch from the display?Whoever designed this is an idiot, as the bright blue background almost completely obscures the black numbers that show the time. The colors are too close in tone or brightness for there to be enough contrast to read what the display says.

Another problem, and this one is even "funnier" than the aforementioned: as we speak, my month-old Emerson clock-radio is speeding through the time, literally. It has some weird tick, where, if you use the remote control to control the volume, it affects the minutes part of the time as well as the volume. If you hold down the up or down volume buttons for any amount of time, the minutes start freaking out uncontrollably. For instance, as I write, my clock is going through 11 am over and over and over again at warp speed. It would be funny if I didn't pay for this piece of garbage.

All of that being said, the CD player in my experience is serviceable.Mine plays burned CDs as well as normal ones. The sound quality is decent for such a small player.

If you are thinking of getting this as a clock or alarm, please think carefully: the screwed up volume-time function, the horribly bright display, and the almost complete lack of contrast between the time digits and background make this virtually unuseable as an alarm clock.

Coby CX789 Digital AM/FM/NOAA Radio with Dual Alarms, silver Review

Coby CX789 Digital AM/FM/NOAA Radio with Dual Alarms, silverThis is a good deal for it's price- digital tuning with preset buttons- AM/FM/NOAA. There is a problem using the AC power (with supplied AC power cord)- when powered with AC the LED panel fades to almost unreadable!I decided to buy a second unit to see if another would have the same problme: yes! Thus, there is a defect when operating on AC power, so I don't recommend using AC power. However, operating on batteries is ok- no fading of the LED panel. Also, operating on DC adapter also tested and works ok (DC power adapter is not provided- I got one at Radio Shack: AC-TO-DC POWER ADAPTER 1.5-15VDC, 300ma and set it for 4.5 DCV)

Everything else works ok- and this is the style of radio I wanted, and there are no others like this at this price. I now have three units. This has digital tuning with quick change preset buttons and a volume knob on the right side, which is very nice! The LED panel has black letters on a non-lighted background and is hard to read- ignore the bright LED panel you see in the pic-it does not look like that! However there is a light button that lights up for 6 seconds and helps you read it better. Reception is fine for local stations, which provide good clear speaker sound, with no noise.

It's fine if you are looking for a very inexpensive digital radio, (I found nothing cheaper in this style) but you may have the AC power problem I have, and you will have to get the Radio Shack DC power adapter (4.5v, 300ma), or just use 3 D-size batteries.

UPDATE 4/7/09:Robert Lambert discovered the solution to using the AC power cord. There is an AC switch inside the battery compartment that is set on 220v when I received all three of my radios. Simply set the switch on 110v (for USA) and presto!AC power cord works fine!No need to purchase DC adapter! This power switch is not described in the instructions and I even called Coby support about my problem and they didn't mention the switch!Thankyou Robert for the info!I can't change rating, if I could I now rate this radio 4.5 stars!

Memorex MC2896 Projection Clock Radio Review

Memorex MC2896 Projection Clock RadioI bought this for it's projection capability. As far as the alarm clock/radio portion of it I think it is as good as any other basic model. The projection number size and brightness was just fine on our 8' ceilings. It takes up less space at the base than other models which is another plus.
