In these trying times we all need to make sacrifices in order to get by. When I lost my job as the glaze-applier at Krispy Kreme, my wife and I didn't know how we were going to make ends meet. She makes decent money, but even the exotic piercing industry is taking a hit in this economy.

Once the late-payment notices started to outnumber the actual bills, I knew it was time to take matters into my own hands. I told my wife that she should get a second job as a stripper, but we both agreed that her severe clubfoot wasn't exactly going to rake in the money.

So, my wife and I came to the agreement that since I was the one who lost the job, I would have to be the one to replace the income. As a stripper.

Sony ICF-CD543RM Kitchen CD Clock Radio (Silver) Review

I tried other radios in the kitchen, but none could compare to the sound of this unit. FM reception's pretty good too. The "kitchen friendly" controls are easy to clean. Mounting is done by drilling three holes, for which it has a paper template, and it has adjustable spacers to accommodate cabinets with recessed bottoms. It's about 11-1/2 inches deep and just an inch or two wider.

I don't seem to get any weather band channels, and the TV channels I get are very quiet so I have to remember to turn the sound down before switching to FM or CD. The timer's a nice feature for the kitchen but seconds can't be set and it takes a lot of turning to get to longer bake times, like an hour or more. The magnetic remote's also nice but you have to be able to see the sensor and stay within about 45 degrees for it to work.

Overall I'm very happy with it. The sound is great and makes spending all day around the kitchen less lonely, plus it doesn't take up any counter space. I do feel like I paid a small premium for the name Sony though.

JENSEN JCR-262 Sensor Snooze AM/FM Clock Radio Review

You won't have to worry about waking up on time because you'll never get to sleep; the LED display is so bright on low setting that it illuminates the whole room to the point it seems an alien abduction is in progress. All other aspects of this unit are fine, with the exception that you still have to reset the clock after unplugging/power failure, even with a 9V installed. After 2 years with a GE alarm clock that required a doctorate to program I just ordered this one.I love all things Sony.The numbers are large and just the right brightness for light sleepers.The switchs, lights, and knobs all make sense.For the price, its a great alarm clock.For the reasons below I must return it, but for the average user it should be fine.

The provisos are as follows:

First, the small one.As an employee who's schedule varies, I find the alarm set features annoying.You cannot go back in time, but rather have to scroll forward around the horn in order to change the time from 7:00 to 6:45.For someone who gets up at the same time everyday, this should not be a problem.

The second, and very large problem for myself is the volume of the alarm.It is loud, VERY loud.Even the soft setting is enough to startle me out of sleep and I am a very heavy sleeper.This I could get used to.However, my wife is a lighter sleeper and my 2 month old daughter (who sleeps in the room with us) is a very light sleeper.I now awake to a loud alarm clock and a screaming baby.For the average user, this will not be a problem, but if you dislike loud alarms, skip this one.

Curtis IP215 Alarm Clock Radio/iPod Docking Station Review

I've had this iPod docking station for a couple of years, and it's probably one of the best purchases I've made. I don't know why people buy bargain speakers and expect theatre quality sound, but they do. Don't make that mistake with this unit. It will pump up the volume (exactly what I need!) but this is not a surround sound Dolby THX'ed Wonderdock. It's a clock radio with a place to dock your iPod so that you can play it and charge it at the same time.

I frequently move this between a couple of rooms, and I've dropped it more than once. I've also spilled stuff on it, and it works the same as it did when I took it out of the box the day I bought it. I don't use the clock or alarm, so I can't really comment on how well that functions, but the buttons appear to be pretty straightforward and easy to understand if I wanted to start. I occasionally listen to a local radio station on it, and I have no issues with reception.

There's a place in the bottom for a couple of AAA batteries in case of a power outage, and in the back there are in & out aux outlets, along with a "video out" port. I've never used the ports, but it does appear to be a versatile dock. There's also a switch in the back to turn doiwn the brightness of the clock display. The display is VERY bright at night and could double as a night light. I find the brightness disturbing to my sleep even at the low setting and stuck a label over it since I don't use the clock portion anyway.

The design is very sleek and modern looking, sure to go well with most decor, and it looks nice on a dresser (if you haven't spilled something on it like I have!). For the durability, sound quality, volume output, and apparent multi-functionality, I don't think there's a lot out there that can surpass this iPod dock. It's an excellent little workhorse for someone like me who plays their iPod 24/7, needs the volume output and is a little bit clumsy. I think overall it will please most users.

COBY CR-A68S Dual Alarm Clock Radio, Silver Review

A nice looking product, but form should follow function....and it doesn't perform that well. Clock is somewhat difficult to read...darker than any other led clocks I own.Also, the radio is difficult if not impossible to tune.Most of my favorites come in mixed with another.Alarm works well however.And for $10 what was I expecting?
So it went in the guest room.Let them complain.

Timex T101B Extra Loud Led Alarm Clock - Black Review

If you just need an alarm clock to tell the time and get you out of bed get this one. It more than gets the job done. I was looking for a bedside clock, no radio, no projection, no gimmicks, and after a very very long internet search came across this nice little clock. If you're just looking for a basic alarm clock for a low price this is the one to get! It has more bells and whistles than a regular clock, 9 minute snooze (of course it MUST have the SNOOZE feature), automatic reset/off alarm button, on/off alarm button, and loud/soft alarm noise button. This really will look attractive on your bedside/living room end table/kitchen counter and it comes in different colors too. The black looks very attractive on my bedside table. It has good heft/weight to it too, giving it a feeling of a quality made product that will last for years. The brightness of the display is perfect, not too dim, not too bright. I was looking at analogue clocks but this one is a beauty compared to the two previous analogue clocks I had and has a PM light indicator, Alarm On indicator, and a low back up battery indicator besides. The alarm will go off for two hours before automatically turning off (leave home/apt. and forget to turn it off), and the snooze feature will go off every 9 minutes as long as you keep pressing it, and the feature will automatically turn itself off after 2 hours (do you really need more than that, reset the alarm). It is nice and compact so it doesn't take up too much room. Besides this clock is electric so batteries are no longer a concern. This is a nice quality, attractive product that seems like it will last a very long time (much better quality than my Timex battery powered analogue clock, much better looking, and it's both heavier and smaller at the same time). Other reviews state the snooze button is located too close to the alarm off button (may accidently press it instead), but I have had absolutely no problem distinguishing between the two buttons, especially given their size, and it isn't even a concern to me. I should also include that I thought analogue was the way to go, but the digital display on this is of high quality, is easy on the eyes at night, and having to reach over to press a button to see the time in the dark is no longer an issue. So get this clock it's a no-brainer with more than enough features to ensure this is the alarm clock you will be glad you purchased. I think it's worth more than I paid for it!

Sangean RCR-1 Advanced Atomic Clock Radio - Silver Review

This clock radio is OUTSTANDING!!! (and it looks great). The time accuracy (atomic clock) is beyond compare.The AM/FM PLL synthesized radio is static free and has excellent sound. Not stereo, but still pleasing!The unit is feature-laden. I love the "Humane Waking System" which gradually ramps up the sound for both alert/radio alarms so as not to jolt you out of bed.I'm a very heavy sleeper, and the adjustable volume for both alarms makes it plenty loud to get up.The independence of both alarms makes this extremely convenient for husband/wife and weekday/weekend settings. Another nice feature is the "nap" function.Set it and the alarm goes off from 10 minutes to 2 hours later, without having to touch the normal alarms.The background light display is a pleasing pastel blue, which changes to orange leting you know that the alarm is serious! The adjustability of the display is excellent, including a dimmer at the push of a button, and completely off if you so desire. I could go on and on about the features of this unit.However, here is where the "but" comes in...the instruction manual is not the most clearly written. The most serious problem, in my opinion, was not being able to pick up the atomic signal.Sure the instruction manual warns you that it might take up to 48 hours to receive the signal.It also warns you that the unit might need to be repositioned to receive the signal.I was frustrated after not getting the signal for a couple of days.Then I noticed that the back of the radio has a circular slot for the rectangular "block-shaped" atomic signal antenna.Once I put the antenna in the slot, the signal was received, and has been maintained ever since. This was NOTstated in the instruction manual. Another minor criticism is there are 14 (7 AM and 7FM) presets, not 21 as stated in the manual.14 is more than enough for me.The alarm instructions took some patience to learn. These criticisms of the instruction manual should in no way detract from the features and quality of the product, both of which are excellent.Buy this and you will be extremely happy.Just be patient and fiddle around with it.Nothing beats trial and error when it comes to high-tech gadgets.

Disney's Cars Tow Mater Clock Radio - C300ACR Review

My daughters (5 and 7) receieved this alarm clock for Christmas. It is easy for them to turn off in the morning. The display is nice and bright. They love to push the demo button which goes through the 5 different Mater sayings. My only complaint is that it would be hard for a little one to set by themselves, since the buttons are a bit hard to push and they are too far apart for little hands. But sometimes you don't want your kids to be able to set their alarm for 3am! Compared to the other Cars alarm clocks on the market, I'd say this one is the best.

Equity 31015 Digital LCD Alarm Clock with Blue Display Review

I love the look and size of this clock.The display is large enough and the alarm is loud.It is very basic and easy to use.The only problem is that the clock is not what the description says it is.The back light only comes on when you push the "snooze/light" button and the light is not very bright.I need a clock with the light always on as I wake up at night and want to know the time.This would be difficult for me with this clock because my clock is not at my bedside (so that I have to get out of bed to turn off the alarm in the am).Also, it is only battery powered.You can use one AA or a 9 volt, but there is no way to plug it into the wall.I was fine with this because I wanted a battery-powered clock but, as I mentioned, the description was misleading. I will be returning the clock because of the light issue.

I love the Big Beautiful Blue Display on this Clock Radio.I can easily read it from across the room.I bought it mainly for use as a bedroom clock.As a clock, I would give it 5 stars.

The Radio part is a different story.The controls are very crude, and have a cheap feel to them.Tuning in stations is a pain.The sound quality is like what I would expect from something this size, just okay.For me, this is a radio that I have tuned to a local station, and it will likely stay that way.I don't intend to use the radio much, except maybe as an alarm clock.As a Radio, I would give it 1 to 2 stars.Not too bad if you always keep it on the same station.

If you are looking for a Nice Clock with a Big Time Display, and don't care much about the radio, I would Recommend this item.

My trusty old Sony alarm clock's radio selectivity was getting on my nerves, and the cheap General Electric model I chose to replace it did not measure up.Fortunately, this new Sony easily surpasses both its older brand-mate as well as the ergonomically-botched offering from GE.Advantages include precise, dial-adjustable display brightness, better radio reception and selectivity, and simple controls for sleepyheads to understand and operate.Audio is clear but undistinguished--about what one would expect from a clock radio.Nevertheless, for such a low price that is forgiveable.
