HoMedics SoundSpa AM/FM Clock Radio Review

HoMedics SoundSpa AM/FM Clock RadioUnless you can sleep with bright lights, don't care about the correct time, and are not picky about the sound quality, I would NOT recommend this product. I contacted customer service because of the projection time showing differently than the main screen time and they were pretty prompt to reply but they said that it was a problem with MY electric! Who ever heard of that? They said that I would just have to unplug it whenever that happens and then plug it back in and reset the current time and alarm time. I've had this for about 6 months and I've had to reset it about 12 times. Quite ridiculous considering the amount that this product costs.

Pros:
Makes a good night light if you're someone who needs a brightly lit room.
I like that the numbers are blue instead of the normal red.

Cons:
Screen is too bright
Nature sounds sound unnatural (for example the waterfall sounds more like white noise.)
Nature sounds sound like a broken record (they are just a few seconds long and just play over and over again.)
Projection clock usually shows random numbers
Freezes up a lot where you have to unplug it to reset it.
Radio quality isn't that great.

Overall I would NOT recommend this product. I'm kicking myself for not taking this back to the store I bought it from while I still could. I thought HoMedics was a good brand but now I don't think I will ever purchase anything from them again.

Nature Sounds Alarm Clock Review

Nature Sounds Alarm ClockFirst off, I also get "time drift". Not always a bad thing as I seem to need an extra 10 minutes, but at the moment the clock is about 40 minutes fast. A pain to keep resetting. Also, only has one alarm so I have to keep resettingdepending on what the next day is. Lastly, I returned my first one because the volume control doesn't work for the alarm nature sounds (which are loud!), only for the sleep sounds. Turns out that's the way it works. But good nature sounds. "Coulda been a champ".

GPX D715 AM/FM/CD Digital Clock Radio with Dual Alarm Review

GPX D715 AM/FM/CD Digital Clock Radio with Dual AlarmThis item worked real well and then all of a sudden the buttons would not work. I could not change the time, set the alarm, or even turn on the CD player or radio. The alarm still worked, but I had to set it to get up at the time previously set because it would not change. It was not just one button it was all of them. Nothing worked. It was like they had a timer and shut down all of a sudden. It happened only a week after the 90 day warrranty period was over.

HoMedics Sound SPA Premier Sound Machine Clock Radio with Atomic & Indoor/Outdoor Temperature Review

HoMedics Sound SPA Premier Sound Machine Clock Radio with Atomic & Indoor/Outdoor TemperatureI've owned this product now for 6 months and have found that it works as advertised. Complaints that the display is too bright at night ignore the fact that users hypersensitive to light can turn the backlight off and go with only the projected light at night. (The projected light is not bright enough to keep any normal person awake; in fact even when one is dark-adapted the projected display is quite faint.) Many reported problems with the time are due to inadvertently pressing the button that determines the time zone. I did this on one occasion myself and realized my error when the time jumped forward two hours. Complaints that the radio is "low fi" are the result of unreasonable expectations. This unit is not intended as a replacement for a dedicated audio system. I have found the temperature readings on the indoor and outdoor displays to be accurate within a degree Fahrenheit or less, compared with readings on an independent thermometer. In summary, I have found the HoMedics Premier Sound Spa to be an excellent consumer-level device which works as advertised and which is great value for the money. I would not want to be without it.

Timex Digital Tuning Large LED Projection Clock Radio with Dual Alarm, Nature Sounds Noise Maker, And Line-In For all CD Players, MP-3 Players, all Generations iPod and all Audio Players Review

Timex Digital Tuning Large LED Projection Clock Radio with Dual Alarm, Nature Sounds Noise Maker, And Line-In For all CD Players, MP-3 Players, all Generations iPod and all Audio PlayersBought this model clock from a none Amazon retailer.Easy to set and set up times for the two alarms. It has a sleep mode with about four settings and can play either AM-FM radio, MP3 player, AUX player or four nature sounds.Alarms can wake you with either of these options too.Has a Snooze button.Display setting tells time, Alarm time if set, and date. Why you need a need to know the month, day, year date while you sleep I don't know.

Huge down side for me was the projection display.Since it is on the back it can only display straight up or to the rear of the clock. You can flip the display and adjust the focus.Time and alarm setting if wanted are displayed in nice light blue.I sorta wanted to have the display shown on the ceiling in the center of the bed an since the clock sits on a night table I have to turn over to look at the clock.Sorta defeats the purpose of the projection display. But no big deal.I like the fact that you can play a MP3 player or CD player with it for a sleep mode or alarm wakeup.

Timex Digital Tuning Dual Alarm Clock Radio w/ Projection and MP3 - Black ( T436B ) Review

Timex Digital Tuning Dual Alarm Clock Radio w/ Projection and MP3 - BlackThis clock is really nice. It has good radio reception, the adjustable Indiglo backlight for the display is clear, the projection feature is nice, and the speaker itself is good. This is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. If you're like me, this clock isn't that good, if you're the opposite, then it may be 4 or 5 stars.

What bothered me were the backlight, the date, and the alarm. The backlight feature is a permanent setting when used, in the sense that it will be on or at that level of brightness all the time. I would have loved a separate setting that allowed the backlight to be turned on (push a button) and then it shuts off after 10-30 seconds for checking time in the middle of the night.

This clock keeps track of the date as well, however, if you set an alarm, it will replace the date view with the earliest alarm set. Since I wasn't expecting the clock to keep track of the date, this didn't bother me, but it didn't make sense to me to see the alarm time all the time.

The feature that drove me to return this clock, the deal breaker, is the Alarm itself. First, there is no actual alarm buzzer/beep sound. Second, the alarm sound used is the last setting you chose on the clock (radio/natural sounds/MP3 input) at the sound level you had it at. I can be a heavy sleeper, and the alarm on this clock does not increase volume over time or have it's own beeping sound independent of the radio, natural sounds, or MP3 input. Before sleeping, I like to turn the radio on for some music on a 15 minute timer, but this is with low volume; hence I could not rely on the alarm of this clock without sacrificing listening to the radio before I sleep.

Homedics SS-5500 SoundSpa Radiance AM/FM Alarm Clock with Time Projection, Light, Sound and Timer Review

Homedics SS-5500 SoundSpa Radiance AM/FM Alarm Clock with Time Projection, Light, Sound and TimerI've searched american innovative, hammacher schlemmer, brookstone, and other types of vendors with creative products to help me wake up gradually.I truly hate the beeping alarm clock standard and think it's too jarring and unnatural. Most of the ones I've tried have terrible, canned nature sounds and the 'low' volume of the progression is already too loud.

This clock is easily the best i've tested. To the user above who can't figure out how to make the lamp come on dimly at first, read my comment on that review - there's a simple switch on the back. When it's off, the lamp comes on full blast, but when you turn it on, it's a very gradual brightening.

This is one of the clock's best features - other clocks have a built-in bulb, but with this you get to use your own light instead of some gaudy towering clock next to your bed.I've got mine plugged into a lamp 20 feet away from the bed and it works perfectly.Another nice feature is that while in bed, if I forgot something, i can just press a button on the clock and turn the lamp on remotely, with fully dimmer controls. And at night, you can set it to gradually get quieter and dimmer until it shuts off at a preset time.

If you want a peaceful way to wake up, with either progressive nature sounds or slowly-increasing radio, plus a natural brightening of the room over 15 or 30 minutes, this is the right clock.

The only feature I wish they included is an iPod dock. For some reason you can't have progressive volume, light control, AND mp3 control in one clock. The ceiling projection is kind of cool, but I still don't see a reason to buy that feature alone. The one other reviewer who said the blue is too bright - this is true.Despite a dimmer control on the display, even the dim setting is far too bright.

Other than that, this is a great product.Just the remote lamp feature alone is cool enough to buy it and give it a try.

HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio & Sound Machine with Time Projection Review

HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio & Sound Machine with Time ProjectionThe HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio and Sound Machine is a handy little device to have around. It features a pretty good radio and six natural sound settings. The nature settings are Ocean, Summer Night, Rain, Rainforest, Thunder, and Waterfall.Of these settings, Ocean and Rainforest are my personal favorites.Rain and Waterfall are pretty good as well.Since I live in Louisiana, I only have to open my window at night to hear the real Summer Night setting.Thunder falls short due to the fact that it really doesn't sound much like thunder. It's more like a constant roar.

The clock is very easy to set up and use.Like another reviewer, I found no need to use the instructions to set up the time, alarm, projection focus and placement or any of the sound settings.I did double check myself by reading the instructions after I set up the clock, but I had everything covered.

The time projector is great for folks like myself who don't even want to turn over in the morning. When the alarm goes off, all you need to do in order to see the time is swing your left or right arm (depending on the location of your clock in relation to the bed) to the snooze button, press it and look up.The projector will display the time for five seconds on the ceiling. That's long enough for you to decide whether or not to get up.You also have the option of keeping the projector on at all times. It gives off a nice warm blue glow in a darkened room.

A sleep timer is also provided on the clock. If you need some soothing sounds to block out reality in order to get to sleep, this feature is really nice.

The only shortcomings I find with this clock radio are that the radio reception is iffy at times (but then again, most clock radios are) and the alarm isn't very loud even though I have the volume cranked up.I need a very loud alarm to wake me in the morning. The buzzer on this clock just doesn't wake me very well. You can also choose the radio or nature sounds to wake up to, but I need an annoying and loud sound to get me going.

Overall, this is an excellent purchase for folks who need white noise in the background in order to get to sleep, do a little work, or just to relax. It's also pretty handy in getting and keeping the kids asleep at night. If you need a loud buzzer to wake to in the morning like I do, you might want a different clock. However, I think the positives outweigh the negatives with this clock radio.I like it and recommend it.

Timex TM80 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for FlashDrive & SD Card or any iPod, MP3, CD or Cassette Audio Player Using the Line-In Audio Jack with Full-function Remote Control Review

Timex TM80 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for FlashDrive & SD Card or any iPod, MP3, CD or Cassette Audio Player Using the Line-In Audio Jack with Full-function Remote ControlAfter using this for a month, I'm still very pleased with it. The pros far outweigh the cons here.

First and best, this thing sounds GOOD. There are 5 tone presets to choose from. The ported speaker is able to produce amazing sound quality. 5 stars for this alone.

Clock displays time, and when no music is playing, the date. Automatic DST switch. Backlight has 4 levels one of which is off. Backlight color and display text is low contrast, hard for me to see.

Battery backup keeps all your settings.

It remembers quite a bit: If you hit the power button, whatever you were listening to is restored, be it MP3 or radio. If you hit the sleep button, it applies the volume setting in use the last time it turned itself off. If you hit the play button, it plays, from the beginning, whatever MP3 was playing when last turned off.

Sleep times of 120, 90, 60, 30 and 15 mins. After setting the sleep mode, if you click the sleep button again, it displays the time remaining before cutoff. When its time, the sound is gently faded out.

Random and repeat settings for MP3 play. Folder button so you can browse memory contents. ID tag info scrolls while track is played. Select SD slot or USB port for source. Line in for other stereo input. Recessed well for USB drives, with a cover. SD card sticks up a few millimeters from it's slot.

Full featured remote. Yes, it is handy if the clock is just out of reach on the nightstand.

Wake to: radio, mp3, buzzer. There is no way to select "wake to random mp3", but I get around that by putting a 3 second silent mp3 in the memory, select that as the wakeup track, and set for random play.

12 station memories for the radio, arranged in 3 banks, 2 for FM stations and 1 for AM.

The cons:

FM reception is so so. The stations I can get all sound good, but can't pull in distant ones.

The buttons on the front [sleep, power, alarms, wake to, radio preset bank selecter] are impossible to distinguish by touch. Adding a dot of hot glue to a few of them helped quite a bit.

The volume control feels like nothing is there. It works fine, just feels weird.

Can't read the time unless I put on my glasses.

___________

If I didn't already own one, I'd buy it again!

Timex CD Player Dual Alarm Clock Radio and Nature Sounds Sleep Machine Review

Timex CD Player Dual Alarm Clock Radio and Nature Sounds Sleep MachineNot happy with quality or features of this unit. Had a previous Timex Nature Sounds unit with better quality on all fronts. Here are the differences that led to my disappointment:

- Display way too bright with no dimmer - I can read by the light it puts out
- Audible buzz or hum and bright red light when an alarm is in a "snoozed" mode
- Crude tuner and volume dials reminiscent of 70's technology with crackley sound when adjusting
- Single dial volume control for radio and CD player listening and alarm
- Dual alarms but one is buzzer only and the other is either sounds, radio, or CD
- No daylight savings time adjustment
- Same nature sounds tracks; would have preferred longer improved tracks or at least different tracks
- Broad and flat - much larger footprint than previous upright model.

You don't get the details on the box so there's no way to tell until you buy it, but I generally expect electronics products to improve with subsequent versions, not go backwards.

Timex T309T Alarm Clock Radio with Nature Sounds (Titanium) Review

Timex T309T Alarm Clock Radio with Nature SoundsThis is a nice little item. It has good sound quality and three types of alarm: radio, buzzer, and nature sounds (there are 3 or 4 of these to choose from). You can specify whether an alarm setting works every day, only on weekdays, or only on weekends. Each alarm setting has its own radio station or nature sound (and volume) associated with it. It's got a nice big snooze button on top, which doubles as a display dimmer (my favorite feature).
I've come across just a couple disappointments in the week that I've had it.
- I thought I'd be able to create a radio-alarm setting for weekdays and another radio-alarm setting (same time, but different station) for weekends. Can't do it. You get one setting for each type of alarm.
- The radio preset buttons are arranged in a line across the front of the unit. The band setting button is in that line too, to its left. So if you want preset #1, you've got to punch the second button. Hitting the first button switches you to AM.
All in all, though, it's worth the [money].

Product Description:
The Timex T309TT triple-alarm clock radio lets you wake to your choice of AM/FM radio, buzzer, or any of four nature sounds (wind, brook, surf, and forest spring). Yes, you read correctly: the triple-alarm system lets you set three independent alarm times and wake sounds.
Even if you're waking alone, you might want to set the device to trigger, say, soothing nature sounds at 7 a.m., a gentle radio station at 7:15, and a blaring buzzer at 7:30 just in case your heinie is still in the sack when it ought to be in the shower. Use the convenient 7-5-2 system to set your alarm(s) for the week, weekdays, or the weekend.
Store up to 18 radio stations in memory, accessible through six one-touch tuning buttons. The radio offers drift-free PLL (phase-locked loop) digital tuning and displays station frequency and preset numbers.
Time to crash? Drift into sleep to the radio or soothing nature sounds using the programmable sleep timer. The unit also offers a 99-year calendar (2000 to 2099) with year/month/day display and a sure-alarm battery backup system.
What's in the Box
Alarm clock radio and a user's manual.
