Magnavox MCR140 Big Display Alarm Clock Radio Review

I wanted a clock radio with a large screen but one that looked relatively stylish as well. This Magnavox fit the bill with numerals nearly 1.5 inches tall (which is unusually large for a clock radio). It's easy to see the time from far across the room.

The appearance of the unit is also really nice, with rounded edges and some minimalist modern flair, as opposed to the boxy black mediocrity that you normally find in this price category ($15-20).

Lastly, the radio on this unit has excellent sound quality and projects well across my large living room. The sound quality is crystal clear and doesn't sound muffled the way most clock radios of this price do.

My only gripe is that the internal antenna seems highly vulnerable to movement in the room, and I'll often times have good reception when I'm standing near the radio, but as I move away from it, the sound becomes static-filled. This doesn't happen all the time, and it seems to depend on the placement of the radio on my shelf (if I move it half an inch one way or the other, it usually fixes the static issues), but it does get annoying on occasion.

Equity Skyscan 31420 Travel Atomic Clock Review

I'm sending this back! The nice bright face, with contrasting yellow background, shown on the image is only a sticker. The actual face is gray and black and is not easy to see, even when lit by pushing the tiny button that you'll never find in the dark. Even worse is if the clock is not near a window, it won't set the time. It also can't be in a concrete building, or about 10 other places according to the directions, for it to work properly. I can't trust that this will work properly wherever I'm staying on my trip.

GPX CRCD-2806 Clock Radio and CD Player with AM/FM Radio and Alarm Review

I purchased this CD clock radio because I found it difficult to sort through all the mixed reviews on everything else.

On the whole, I am very happy with it.It is easy to use, has a dimmer so I can sleep and am not bothered by the display, and the CD seats securely so that it does not bounce around as they can sometimes do in these small, inexpensive devices.It woke me right on schedule and was easy to wake up to.

The only drawback, and I guess you can't get everything in a device in this price range, is that the sound quality, particularly at the low levels I often use in my bedroom, is quite airy sounding.

If you want good sound -- or you "want it all" -- this is not the device for you.If you want a workable and inexpensive CD clock radio, this is a good choice in my opinion.

aXbo Sleep Phase Alarm Clock (Single, White) Review

I've had this product for over a year now and both my husband and I like it very much.I don't find that the aXbo is any more difficult to set than with a regular clock. I set it for the time that I would set a regular clock for, say 6:30, and realize that it could go off as early as 6:00.

By using the aXbo, we don't wake up in the middle of a deep sleep except on the rare occasion when we haven't moved in the 30 minutes prior to the alarm, causing it to use a buzzer instead of the alarm sound that I chose.

My husband travels often for business and has far more early mornings than I do (getting up before 5:30).On those nights he always uses the aXbo and has never had a problem with either not waking up or only waking up enough to turn off the alarm and then falling back asleep.

Disney Princess Tiara Projection Alarm Clock Review

I bought this alarm clock for my 6-year-old daughter who loves all things princess.Although it is cute sitting on her nightstand it is one of the worst Disney products I have purchased.

The negatives:
1. The time is not illuminated, it is black. So, at night, if you want to see the time you have to physically push a button for it to display onto the ceiling.
2. When you push the button for the time to display on the ceiling it only stays lit about 10 seconds and you must have the clock sitting a certain way or it will be upside down for you!
3. There is no power cord - this is solely battery operated. We'll have to see how long the batteries last.
4. The alarm sound is ridiculous!I can hear this alarm go off on a different floor in my house with the door shut.
5. There is no radio option, only the offensive alarm sound.I could have purchased an alarm clock like this for $4 at Target - it just wouldn't have been Disney Princess!

The positives:
1. It is cute in a Disney Princess decorated room.

iLuv Internet Radio with Dual Alarm Clock (Black) Review

There was so much potential although I just find myself saying "BUT" way too many times.

They emphasize the clock display is remarkably large BUT it really isn't.

It is a nice looking unit, BUT you can't appreciate how large the case is until you see it and realize it will take up most of average sized night stand.

The sound quality is quite good if you play it at 4 to 5 or higher BUT the quality goes down at the lower volume level where most people realistically would use at the bedside.I haven't found any adjustments for things like bass and treble.

Customer support is terrible.They give you a phone number BUT it just sends you to voice mail.They give you a way to send a message online for express service BUT it is not "express" or helpful.I asked some simple questions while I was waiting for the unit to ship and it took two days for them to respond.They didn't actually attempt to answer my questions at all BUT just sent a .pdf of the manual and told me to read it.Not one of my questions was answered in the manual they sent (simple stuff like does the unit support WPA2, have a place for a 9 volt backup battery, etc.).The manual is very brief and does not go in-depth on any technical details like networking.There are many menus of options on this system that are never discussed in the manual. (Update: they did send me a second email a week later that did attempt to actually answer a few of my questions, and yes, it does support WPA2 but keep on reading).

The biggest killer to me, unless customer support can't advise me otherwise (waiting to hear from them), is that any time your wireless router is turned off OR the security key does a rolling change of the key AND you are using a wireless connection to the router, the iLuv is not able to reestablish a connection on its own.It will try BUT fail.When it fails, it starts the network wizard again AND DELETES YOUR KEY/PASSWORD!You have no choice and no way of stopping it.Even if you try to bypass the wizard and manually configure things, it will wipe out all of the network settings (it keeps the station presets, etc.) and require you to redo things.Oddly, when you manually reenter the key (the same key as you inputted the first time), it will reconnect on its own just fine.If you have a "strong" key for your system (like you should to be really secure), it takes forever to re-enter in the key.You would not believe the arcane method to enter in data via the buttons on the front panel.

This means whenever your router rolls/changes the security key (this is often multiple times an hour for security reasons) the wifi connection will drop and it cannot reconnect.Additionally, any time you turn off your router for an approaching storm, have a power outage, change any setting on the firmware of your router that requires it to reboot itself,etc., you are going to need to reenter your many-charactered key.Router power downs and reboots are just a fact of life.Using a router without a password would bypass this problem BUT that approach is not smart/safe.All of my other wifi devices can reconnect without a problem, so the issue is with the iLuv radio.

This brings up anther flaw.When you plug this unit in via Ethernet (which works well), there should be a software application provided on CD from iLuv that allows you to do all of the programming via your PC versus through the keys on the front of the radio.This is a serious oversight by iLuv.

UPDATE: After about another week (some "express" service, eh?) iLuv finally got back to me in regard to my second email about the dropped wifi connection issues.This is their one_sentence answer to the wifi disconnecting problem: "This problem will not happen after reset iNT170 & re-connect to internet every time user changed the password." I am sorry, but what a lame attempt at a guess/reply after a week of waiting.

I wanted to keep this thing... BUT I just am not feeling the "luv" at this point.The industry is now on the second generation of internet radios and I expected more.Maybe iLuv will release an updated firmware to fix the flaws.The radio is being returned today :( .

Equity 30330 1-Inch LCD Green Display Alarm Clock Review

I was looking for a small, pretty basic alarm clock and so glad I found the Equity 30330 because it suits my needs perfectly. I didn't want one with all the bells and whistles, my husband has had one like that on his side of the bed for 6 years and I still can't figure out how to work it. Some must haves for me were that it be cordless, and especially had a display light that wouldn't bother me when I was going to sleep (not too bright). Seems to me from reading some other reviews that this is a common issue with people. For me, the little lights on my DVD player even bother me so I was very hesitant to order any alarm clock online without seeing it in person but I'm very glad I took a shot. This nifty clock is just perfect for me, the display is dim (soothing on the eyes), not too dim that I can't read it but rather just perfect where it doesn't bother me at all when I go to sleep (I believe this is what they are referring to in the description as "nightvision"). It also has a display sensor where if you wave your hand over the snooze button, the display will temporarily light up much brighter (LOVE this feature). It's so easy to set and has not failed me even once. I LOVE the snooze because it will just keep going off until I finally get out of bed, my last alarm clock would snooze 2x and then turn off (of course I would still be sleeping after it turned off...not good). Not much else to say about this clock other than for $13.00 I'm very happy with it. Is it fancy? no but it is rather contemporary looking as opposed to many others I've seen. Basically, I'm up and on time every day, can't ask for more than that. I would definitely purchase this again and highly recommend it.

Oregon Scientific Touch-Controlled AM/FM Radio Alarm Clock with Weather Forecast and Radio-Controlled Atomic Time Review

This little gadget tries to do a lot of things, but if you are looking mainly for an ALARM CLOCK, stay away from it. You got to learn how to touch all these little buttons when you want something and make sure you don't touch something when you don't want it! And all that beeping, every time you touch it and no way to stop it!
The biggest draw-back: I want to be able to see the time on my alarm clock by just opening one eye - not by trying to find the "clock" in the dark and touching it, so I get 30 seconds of lighted display! I bought it thinking that since it is a 120 volt clock (not a battery one), I would be able to turn the back-lit display on and keep it on. No such thing.
So I returned the unit and got stuck with re-stocking fees, plus I lost the original shipping charges AND I had to pay for the return shipping (in rough numbers I paid out $75 and I got $50 credit upon returning the item). To the credit of the shipper, the return process went very smoothly and quickly.
I send an e-mail to the Oregon Scientific with my questions stated. They came back to me two weeks later asking me what my question was!! By that time I had the clock returned.
In short: the worse experience I had with Amazon.com - but then I have had a lot more good experiences with them!

This is a nice clock, but a terrible radio alarm.If you want to listen to the radio just hit the on button and the radio plays nicely, but if you set the alarm there's no guarantee the radio will play.Instead, you may just get static, very quiet static that won't wake you up.I like the blue face, I like the indoor/outdoor temperatures, but this clock fails at being a reliable alarm.I returned my purchase to the store I bought it from (not Amazon) and exchanged it for another clock hoping it was only one defective unit, but the second one was just as bad.I'm returning the second one and buying a different model altogether (and probably a different brand).

I've owned this product now for 6 months and have found that it works as advertised. Complaints that the display is too bright at night ignore the fact that users hypersensitive to light can turn the backlight off and go with only the projected light at night. (The projected light is not bright enough to keep any normal person awake; in fact even when one is dark-adapted the projected display is quite faint.) Many reported problems with the time are due to inadvertently pressing the button that determines the time zone. I did this on one occasion myself and realized my error when the time jumped forward two hours. Complaints that the radio is "low fi" are the result of unreasonable expectations. This unit is not intended as a replacement for a dedicated audio system. I have found the temperature readings on the indoor and outdoor displays to be accurate within a degree Fahrenheit or less, compared with readings on an independent thermometer. In summary, I have found the HoMedics Premier Sound Spa to be an excellent consumer-level device which works as advertised and which is great value for the money. I would not want to be without it.

Silver Wall Clock with Radio Control Review

I bought this item for my great grandmother who turned 91 last October.She has began to suffer from dementia the past couple years and it's starting to creep up on her more.I chose this product for the features: the time, day and date of the week. the temperature was an added bonus.I loved how large the font size was and my favorite part is that she will never have to mess with it until the batteries run low.It was very easy to setup as well.My grandmother loved this and the family members wished they had thought of it too!Great Product!

Timex T435B MP3/CD Line-In 8-Color Clock Radio Review

This is a nice clock for the office, but I don't depend on it to wake me up. I chose this clock because of the dual alarms and iPod connection.The buzzer alarm is not very loud and turns off automatically when the radio alarm goes off.The radio is not good - very bad reception that fades in and out without moving the dial or antenna wire.I'm going to find a better alarm clock and take this to the office as a desk clock & iPod speaker.The good features: dimmer for the display, 2,5, 7 day alarms, automatically updates with Daylight Savings change and you can adjust the volume for the sleep setting without changing the alarm volume.

Nice looking clock but unfortunately, can't keep time if its life depended on it. Within a week it was running 30 minutes faster than my other clocks. Bought it as a Xmas gift for my wife and now its too late to return it. I plan to contact the manufacturer to see if there is anyway to adjust it.

Philips AJ260 Weather Station Clock Radio Review

After reading all the other reviews I wasn't too sure. But reading between the lines I decided to take a chance. I bit the bullet and bought it and so far I am happy I did. I did find one thing I would like changed, one thing I would like enhanced.

The negative and needing changed is that the dual alarms will both sound by the same method. Either both by buzzer or both by radio. I personally like to use one alarm by radio, one by buzzer. That gives me a gentle wake up and then a reminder alert a little later.

To make the clock better, it would be nice if you could dim the weather LED. It is bright, no doubt about it. You can set it so that it only comes on for 10 seconds when you press a button, but I'd still like to see it dimmable.

As far as the other complaints... almost all the bad reviews could be corrected and attributed to user error. If people would RTFM before moaning, life would be easier.

Time resets to central but you live in the west, well read the manual. Not getting the auto time update, RTFM. Weather indicator light stays lit and keeps you up at night, read the manual. Outside temperature sensor giving inaccurate readings, read the flipping manual and mount the sensor in an appropriate place. As far as the sensor only measuring barometric pressure indoors and not outside, well unless you live in a submarine or a minute-man missile silo and use the airlock, the pressure inside and outside your house are the same. Humidity might be different, but pressure is the same, and that is what gives the clock its rudimentary weather predictions. Yes, it is really basic weather predictions, but what do you expect. It's a clock radio, not a meteorologist. Turn on the radio if you want more details.

I'd buy one again, but I would prefer separate buzz/radio selections for each alarm.

Bought this model clock from a none Amazon retailer.Easy to set and set up times for the two alarms.It has a sleep mode with about four settings and can play either AM-FM radio, MP3 player, AUX player or four nature sounds.Alarms can wake you with either of these options too.Has a Snooze button.Display setting tells time, Alarm time if set, and date.Why you need a need to know the month, day, year date while you sleep I don't know.

Huge down side for me was the projection display.Since it is on the back it can only display straight up or to the rear of the clock.You can flip the display and adjust the focus.Time and alarm setting if wanted are displayed in nice light blue.I sorta wanted to have the display shown on the ceiling in the center of the bed an since the clock sits on a night table I have to turn over to look at the clock.Sorta defeats the purpose of the projection display.But no big deal.I like the fact that you can play a MP3 player or CD player with it for a sleep mode or alarm wakeup.

Equity 31302 LCD Fold-Up Travel Alarm Clock Review

If I had saved the receipt, I would have returned this alarm clock.It's never worked properly since the day I bought it.You have to slide a button to set the alarm, which should be easy, but you have to do a lot of fiddling to get the button to stay in place.And even then, you're not guaranteed it will stay set.The snooze button also seems to turn off the alarm for the rest of the morning.Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm on Amazon now looking for a new clock.
